About William Maz

I caught the bug for writing in seventh grade in public school in Worcester, MA when my English teacher gave us an assignment to write a short story on any subject we wished. I wrote about the death of three chicks that I once received as a gift from my mother. I attempted my first novel while in high school, which remained unfinished. I studied fiction writing while an undergraduate at Harvard, then in New York City while attending medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and later while practicing medicine. In New York City I studied fiction writing at The New School, The Writer’s Studio, and for a year in a Gordon Lish class.

My mission is to use fiction writing to ask some of the larger questions that interest people everywhere: how does the world function, what is the best way to spend our lives, why do people and countries do what they do, and, the ultimate question, is there something more than this life?
